What is extrusion? Extrusion is a process used to create objects with defined continuous cross-sections. The material is pushed and extruded through equipment commonly known as a spinneret or nozzle, where it takes on the required shape.

What products do we make? We manufacture diverse types of rubbers (Silicone, EPDM, SBR, (cellular silicone, EPDM, SBR), NBR, TPE, FKM).

What are considered regular or standard shapes? All those that are commonly used in the market, such as pipes, cords, squares, rectangles, bands, ‘e’ shape, ‘9’ shape, ‘u’ shape and half section pipes.

How many types of silicone are there? There are three types of standard silicone: silicone oils, silicone rubbers and silicone resins. Many others derive from them.

What silicone colours exist or are produced? ECATEC produces any RAL or PANTONE colour from minimum quantities. Our standard colour is translucent in compact silicones and white or black in cellular silicones.

What silicone hardness exists or is produced? The most common ranges in compact silicone production are from 30 to 85 Shore A and in the case of cellular silicones from 0.3 to 0.8 g/cm3.

What temperature does silicone withstand? Most standard silicones on the market are resistant to temperatures from -50 ºC to +200 ºC. There are other types of silicone that can withstand -90 ºC (PVMQ) and even +315n (THT).

How durable are silicone products? Their durability will always be related to the working conditions to which they are exposed (temperatures, chemical resistance, mechanical effort, etc…).

Which areas of application are frequent? The most common areas of application are: Aeronautics, Rail, Naval, Industrial Supplies, Automotive Support, Industrial Construction Support, Health, Laboratory, Lighting, Household Items, and Gaskets and Seals.

What is EPDM? EPDM is an elastomeric compound that is manufactured from ethylene, propylene, and a small amount of diene monomer. These ingredients are synthesised to produce a product that shows high ozone, UV radiation, weathering and abrasion resistance, and excellent flexibility at low temperatures. They also contribute to resistance to acids, alkalis, and oxygenated solvents (e. g. ketones, esters, and alcohols).

How durable is EPDM? The useful life of EPDM is over 40 years and it may vary depending on exposure to diverse weather conditions. None of the materials tested has shown alarming signs of degradation.

What does RTV silicone mean? Room Temperature Vulcanisation. RTV means that the silicone concerned is subject to hardening at room temperature. These materials tend to be supplied in liquid or semi-liquid form.

What does HTV silicone mean? High Temperature Vulcanisation. HTV means that the silicone concerned is hardened by applying heat. These materials tend to be supplied with the form of a kind of thick putty and they are therefore processed by using moulds and extruders.

What is the shelf life of a silicone product? The shelf life of silicone rubber products depends, to a large extent, on what is required of the product in terms of processing. The material tends to harden over time, but this can be balanced by cooling it in a two-roller calender. Generally speaking, most compounds have a declared shelf life of at least 6 months.

How can I store silicone compounds? Silicone compounds must be stored in a dry environment, protected from sunlight and heat and below 30°C.
